A Wild Weekend

Wow! What a close meet against Old Georgetown - 26 points separated the two teams! We are now 2 -0. Everyone stepped up on Saturday as we had many best times and won many close races. The thrilling meet started with Samantha Bauer coming from behind on the last leg of the girl's open medley relay and grabbing 2nd place which gave us 1st and 2nd in the event. Other crunch performances were put in by Eric Davis in free, Carlo Galeano in fly,Nora Zaytoun , Clara Spangenberg , and Lindsey Collins in breast - and how about Brendan Lipton? He may become a breaststroker yet!
The relay meet was another close meet. Robin Hood came in 2nd place ( out of 6 teams) losing to Old Georgetown by just 2 points. Winning relays go on to compete at the county All-Star meet at the end of the season. We had four 1st place finishes starting with the mixed 8 & under free relay (Callie Collins, Mollie Bauer, Zach Bayler, Donlan Dailey), Girls 14 & under medley relay ( Keara Lindsay, Bethany Hamson, Emily Lathrop, Callie Collins), the dominating 13 -14 girls medley realy ( Katy Gillis, Sydney Dailey, Emily Lathrop, Stephanie Kincaid), and the thrilling come from behind last relay of the meet! - the girls Crescendo free relay ( Callie Collins, Bethany Hamson, Julia Hondros, Stephanie Kincaid, Keara Lindsay). What a way to end a great meet! Congratulations to everyone who swam - there were many great splits and top 3 finishes.
We have another great meet this Wednesday against our neighborhood rival, Stonegate. It should be fun and fast! The pep rally will be right after the 8 & under practice on Thursday morning- We will be getting psyched for our meet on Friday against Country Glen by making posters, decorating the parking lot with sidewalk chalk, stuffing the fence with plastic cups, practicing our cheers and then cooling off with popsicles!
See you at the pool,
Brian

Great Meet at Calverton!

Wednesday night was a night of some amazing swims! First of all, the meet ran smoothly in record time......... and there was no rain. Most kids improved a lot from time trials. The hard work in practice, especially the focus on steamlines, flip turns and stroke mechanics paid off. Some " crunch" type swims were put in by Simone Chretien in I.M., Kelly Stiller in all her events, Louis Galeano in breast, Brendan Collins in back, Yoselin Milloy in I.M., Bobby Blanco in free and Sally Nichols in free and back. Congratulations to everyone who swam and a big applause to all the best times!
The breakfast was wonderful ( as usual) and the team picture took some time to take ( as usual!).At the movies, most kids were either "up" or "transformed". Anyway, time to get medieval and enjoy cheers. See you at the meets this weekend. Don't forget that the Relay Carnival line-up will be posted by 1:00 on Sat. Take care,

Brian

a few soggy thoughts

It has been an interesting month so far. I haven't seen so much rain and cool weather in years. Today's meet was fantastic ( despite the first Saturday rain delay I can remember since 1981)! There were many best times ( too many to mention here, but there will be jolly ranchers for those swimmers on Monday). I have to mention a few " crunch" performances from a few swimmers - Callie Collins and Donlan Dailey anchoring their free relays, Stephanie Kincaid in the free relay, Cory Camp come from behind win in the 50 back, Bethany Hamson in 50 breast, Keara Lindsay and Cate Kincaid in back and fly, Teresa Cygnarowitz in 25 back, Patrick Mukri's back in the Medley relay, Mollie Bauer in breast,Emily Lathrop in 50 fly, Trinity Kleckner swimming 25 free as a last minute replacement and the dominating performances of the 13-14 girls and 15-18 girls and the 9-10 and 11-12 boys. My goal is to mention as many kids as possible over the course of the season ,so if I didn't mention you by name this week remember that your performances did not go unnoticed! We will continue to emphasize stroke work - especially streamlines off the starts and turns -  in practice. We have the divisional relays next Sunday for which I will post the line-up Saturday  after the next A meet. It should be up by 1:00. Next Wed. is our first B meet against Calverton. It should be lots of fun - Many 8 and unders have been working hard improving their free and back as well as learning the breast and fly. Others have mastered the free and back flip turns. Remember that the B meets are also an opportunity to earn your way into the next A  meet. The pep rally was a great success- everyone seemed to enjoy the root beer floats while learning the team cheers. Thanks again to Patty Gillis and Carolyn Bauer for providing the new green shirts to the team. I know we all love the sayings on the back! Anyway, that's all for now. Congratulations to the team for all the fantastic swims today and our first victory of the season.
