Great Finish!

Wow! What a great finish to an exciting season. The B Relay Carnival was a lot of fun as usual with many kids racing well. Aidan Wholihan had a crunch finish in his free relay and Grace Blanco decided that 25 free wasn't long enough so she did a whole 50! Congratulations to everyone who raced well.
The Divisional Championship meet was decided by 10 points between 1st and 3rd. Unfortunately, Robin Hood came in 3rd, but we ended up tied for 1st overall for the F Division Championship with Old Georgetown. Kids really swam well with great performances coming from Teresa Cygnarowicz, Callie Collins, Mollie Bauer, Donlan Dailey, Christopher Vu, Sasha Sletten, Zach Baylor, Travis Bauer, Chris Kincaid, Paul Lathrop, Cate Kincaid, Keara Lindsay, Ellie Hidalgo,

Undefeated!

Well, it's been exactly 15 years since Robin Hood had an undefeated season. It takes a little luck, some good planning and lot of great swimming to accomplish this feat. The entire team should be proud because everyone was part of this accomplishment! There were several crunch performances and many best times at the meet versus Tally Ho. Some notable performances were turned in by Nikos Koufos, Griffin Nowaskey, Christopher Vu, Katelyn Ale, Hannah Harkaway, Ellie Hildago, Cate Kincaid, Nora Zaytoun, Mollie Bauer , Tina Sasser and Carlo Galeano. It was also great to acknowledge our graduating seniors who have spent many years on the team: Tina Sasser, Eric Davis, Samantha Costa and Brendan Lipton. Congratulations to everyone who raced well and did best times.
Remember, that we have a busy week ahead. The Divisional Championship line-up is posted. The B relay Carnival is Wed. at Calverton and that line-up will be posted by Tuesday morning. Remember to let me know if you cannot participate in the meet because it will affect 3 other kids in a relay. The meet is always a lot of fun! Practice on Thursday and Friday will only be for those swimmers who are swimming in Divisionals... and I will probably have a later start time. Check the board by Tuesday for the details. Friday is our annual tie-dye T-shirt day - this will occur right after the last practice so remember to bring a T-shirt to practice on Friday.
Take care and Go Green!

Great Meet on Wednesday

Tuesday and Wednesday were great nights for meets. Travis Bauer and Patrick Mukri competed in the Coaches Longcourse meet and swam very well. Wednesday night was our last home B meet against Norbeck Hills. There were many exceptional swims with some crunch performances turned in by Zach Jackson in all his events, Scout Crooke in free, Grace Blanco in free, Elliott Chavous in breast, Brian McGovern in breast and Louis Galeano in fly. Many kids did best times and did strokes legally for the first time. Manal Murangi had a fantastic breast and Annika Norris had a great flip turn in her free. Congratulations to all who raced well and did best times.
We have our final A meet at home against Tally Ho which should be a lot of fun. We are honoring our graduating swimmers and many kids are jockeying for one of the top 2 spots in each stroke so that they can compete at the Divisional Championship meet at Glenwood on July 25.
The line -up for the Divisional Championship will be posted by 2:00 on Saturday. Remember that the top 2 instead of the usual 3 swim in each event. Also, there is only one free relay and medley relay for both girls and boys. I will also post who is swimming in the Open Medleys. Best times in each stroke along with the fastest combination of swimmers for the relay will be the main determinants. The free relays will be determined at the meet after the free events have been swam. The fastest freestyler in each age group ( 8& under through 13-14) will swim in that relay.
The pep rally theme is "Monsters" and the movie is Harry Potter. Don't forget to bring your dirty cars to the car wash on Sunday from 10 - 2 at the Colesville fire house!
See you at the pool,
Brian

Longcourse Meet Tuesday Night

Tuesday night is the annual MCSL Longcourse Meet where the top 8 swimmers in each event in the entire county compete in the Olympic size 50 meter pool at the Rockville Municipal Swim Center. The swimmers compete in events that are double the distance of the event that they normally swim. This year, we have 3 swimmers who qualified for this prestigious meet. Travis Bauer will swim 100 breast, Patrick Mukri will swim 200 free and 200 back and Emily Lathrop is 1st alternate in the 100 fly. If you would like to come out and cheer for these swimmers , the meet starts at 6:00 p.m.

Close Meet with Merrimack

Well, we won a nail-biter with Merrimack Park Pool by just 20 points. Many kids apparently found the heated pool to their liking ( especially at 8:00 a.m.! ) and swam best times. There were many exciting races starting with the boys and girls medley relays. Patick Mukri, Eric Davis, Carlo Galeano and Brendan Lipton kept it close in the boys event while the relays of Mary Gillis, Tina Sasser, Julia Hondros, Morgan Dailey and Katy Gillis, Kathleen DePorter, Emily Lathrop and Samantha Bauer provided a 2 - 3 punch! Cory Camp won his 50 back by 1 one hundreth of a second while Ian Hidalgo and Donlan Dailey dropped a couple seconds in back and fly respectively. Emily Lathrop broke a 33 year old team record in the 13-14 50 fly! As you know, team records are very hard to break at Robin Hood so way to go Emily! Julia Hondros led the crunch performers with several close races that she also won by hundreths of a second. Tina Sasser came on strong on the last length of breast to capture a third while Stephanie Kincaid finally broke 40.0 in 50 breast. Mary Gillis swam a superb back along with Stephen Smith in breast, Simone Chretien in free, Zach Bayler in free and breast and Patrick Mukri in all his events. Sydney Dailey added to the last minute thrills with a great leg in the free relay that enabled Robin Hood to capture 1st and 2nd in the last event of the meet! Way to go Robin Hood and congratulations to all who swam their best!
Remember, if you are unable to compete in the upcoming meets, please let me know by e-mail or a phone call as far in advance as possible. The sooner I know, the sooner I can make line-up adjustments that would give another swimmer the opportunity to swim. Our last home B meet is this Wednesday against Norbeck Hills and our last A dual meet is against Tally Ho on Saturday.
Take care and see you at the pool,
Brian

First Home Wednesday Meet a Success

We couldn't ask for better weather lately for our meets and last night was no exception. Many kids swam best times at our first home Wednesday night meet. Some crunch performances were turned in by Sophie Weiland, Nicholas Arnold, Crystal Jung, Anna Rose Nowaskey, Julia Mamana, Maria Poulos, Ryan McFeeters, Aaron Kassman, and the Spangenberg sisters. Congratulations to everyone who raced well and did a best time. In practice we will concentrate on different aspects of breaststroke. A few points for kids to remember are: the arms cannot pull past the hips, only breast kick is allowed , finish the race by touching the wall with 2 hands, and you are allowed only 1 pull and 1 kick on the pull-out at the start of the race. The head needs to break the water before the second pull is complete.
We have a close meet coming up this weekend against Merrimack Park. I figure the meet to be within 20 points. Whether we win or lose, remember that doing your best is all that really counts. What does doing your best mean? It means concentrating on the entire race: having a good streamline on your start, racing the person next you, and having a strong finish. That's all you can really do and you will probably end up with a best time!
See you at the pool,
Brian
