RULES AND REGULATIONS 2009  + + + +

The Board of Directors established the following rules and operating principles to provide enjoyable and safe recreation for all members and guests.   Robin Hood Swim Club, a self-managed club, employs management and staff who are trained and qualified in accordance with all county and state safety and health regulations.  The Board of Directors supervises the management and staff. Any member wishing to make suggestions should contact any Board member.

Your Board of Directors has authorized pool management and staff to enforce these rules fairly and impartially to prevent any activity that jeopardizes the safe and sanitary operations of the pool.  Failure to comply with these Rules can result in suspension of pool privileges and/or termination of membership.

RULES AND OPERATING PRINCIPLES

NO PERSON SHALL USE THE POOL UNLESS A STAFF LIFEGUARD IS ON DUTY

§         During non-pool hours, swim and dive team members and swim lessons participants may enter the pool facility at their appointed times only.

§         Parents and siblings of children participating in the swim or dive teams or swimming lessons during non-pool hours are requested to watch from grassy areas.  Staff and participants only will be allowed on the pool deck.

§         During general swimming hours of operation, all pool members who are not members of the swim or dive teams must wait until 11am to enter the pool facility.

 ADULT SWIM

§         The main pool will be reserved for the last 10 minutes of each hour for an adult (15 years of age or older) swim period.

 EMERGENCY CLOSING

§         The pool will be closed and the facility completely cleared without prior notice for emergency repairs or when inclement weather obstructs the Lifeguard’s vision of the pool or endangers members or staff.

 SPECIAL EVENTS

§         The pool or portions thereof may be closed for events approved by the Board of Directors.  A schedule of such events will be posted at the pool desk or the bulletin board.

 POOL STAFF

§         Pool management or staff may request any person to leave the pool area if in his/her judgment continued use of the pool would jeopardize an individual’s or other members’ health or safety.  The primary responsibility of the Lifeguards is to those in the water.  Members or quests are not to engage conversation with Lifeguards on duty, or request them to assume custody or supervision of children.  As deemed necessary, a lifeguard may administer the “pool test”, consisting of swimming one length and treading water for one minute.

 SUPERVISION AND SAFETY OF CHILDREN

§         It is the responsibility of the parent(s) or their child care provider to supervise the behavior and activities of their children.  If a staff member observes inadequate parental supervision of any child, the staff member is authorized to advise the parent of the risk or concern.  The parent is expected to take immediate and appropriate corrective action.

§         A parent or child care provider must remain within arms reach of any child age three or under – or any “non-swimmer” child – while in the pool facility.  Any child age 12 and under may be asked to pass the “pool test” (see Rule 5 above) to swim outside the roped area at the shallow end of the pool or must be accompanied by an adult.  Pool staff will be available during the adult swim period to administer this test.

WADING POOL

§         Use the wading pool is generally limited to preschool children.  Since lifeguard supervision is not provided for this area, adult supervision is mandatory.

 LAP LANES

§         One adult lap lane will be available during general pool hours with the exception of the hours of 3:30pm to 5:30pm while public schools are in session.  The lap lane may also be closed during special pool functions, such as the July 4th celebration.  An additional lap lane may be requested as needed except during water aerobic exercises, swim lessons, or clinics.  The pool operator on duty will determine if an additional lane can be added.

§         Lap lane swimmers must use a circular pattern and remain to the right side of the lap lane so several swimmers can use the lane.  Swimmers are requested to use courtesy and move out of the lap lane for “stop-and-go” swimming and conversation.  Please be aware of various swimming speeds and allow faster swimmers to go ahead at a turn.

 DIVING

§         No diving is permitted in those areas of the pool where the depth of the water is less than five feet.  Flips, back flips, or can-openers off the side of the pool are prohibited.  The importance of this rule cannot be overemphasized because it is the major cause of swimming accidents.  Any child age 12 and under may be asked to pass the “pool test” in order to use the diving board without parental supervision.  Non-swimmers, regardless of age, may not use the diving boards.

 DIVING WELL

§         No person shall use the diving boards in the diving well unless a Lifeguard is seated in the guard chair adjacent to the diving well.

§         No swimming is permitted in the diving well while the boards are open for use.

§         Divers are to exit the well by promptly swimming to the nearest ladder after each dive.  Only one person shall be permitted on each board or ladder at one time.

§         Divers must keep their feet on the deck until the previous diver has reached the ladder and must check both the water area and the other board before diving.  Divers may not enter the well until the previous diver has completely exited the pool.

§         Excessive bouncing or “horseplay” on the boards will not be tolerated.

 VOLLEYBALL AND BASKETBALL COURTS

§         No throwing or kicking of sand is permitted.

§         After using the volleyball court, patrons must rinse all sand at the foot shower before entering the pool.

§         While using the basketball courts, no “dunking” or hanging on the rims is allowed.

§         Organized volleyball and basketball games will have preference over other play.  Courtesy is expected in the rotation of use.

§         For safety reasons, small children are not permitted on the courts during organized games.  They should sit not closer than six feet from the court’s edge.

 TENNIS COURTS

§         Courtesy is expected in use of the courts.  Please limit play to one (1) hour if others are waiting.

§         A key for the court gate (for access when pool is closed) is available for $2 at front desk.

§         All trash must be placed in the garbage container before leaving.

 INFLATABLE FLOTATION DEVICES

§         Use of rafts, inner tubes, surf boards, arm floats, etc. is generally prohibited.  Face masks, flippers, etc. may be used in the pool except when in the judgment of a Lifeguard on duty such use would interfere with or endanger others.  Permission of the Lifeguard is required.

§         Ball use in the pool is allowed when specifically permitted by a Lifeguard on duty.  Misuse will result in immediate loss of privileges.

 HEALTH REGULATIONS AND WATER QUALITY

§         No person having any skin disease, open or bandages sores, sore or inflamed eyes, cold, nasal or ear discharges, or any communicable disease will be permitted in the pool.  Children who are not toilet trained must wear close fitting rubber pants while inside the pool enclosure.

§         The filtration and chlorinating system will be operated only by trained personnel, and the water will be tested throughout the day for conformity to standards.  The manager (or designate) will close the pool immediately if either the purity or chlorine level is below requirements.  Members can help by keeping floating litter (trash, hair, grass, etc.) out of the water and drains.  Showering before entering the pool will help maintain chlorine levels because body oils tend to neutralize the chlorine.  Use of foot showers to remove grass before entering the pool from the grass is required.

 IMPROPER BEHAVIOR

§         Behavior prohibitions include running on the deck, spitting or spouting of water, nose blowing in the pool, pushing and “rough housing”, offensive language, excess loudness, and possession or use of illegal drugs.

  SMOKING POLICY

§         No one under the age of 18 will be permitted to smoke.  We ask adults who wish to smoke to do so outside of the fenced area of the pool grounds.  Please dispose of cigarette butts properly.

§         There is no smoking allowed at the front entrance or on the pool deck.

 EATING POLICY

§         Consumption of food is only permitted in the grassy areas or while seated at benches or tables on the deck.  Please dispose of all litter in the trash containers provided.  Please do not walk around the pool deck while eating.

OTHER HEALTH AND SAFETY MATTERS

§         No glass bottles or containers are permitted on the pool property.

§         Bicycle riding is prohibited except as necessary to enter/exit the parking lot area.  A rack is provided for bicycle parking.  No bicycles, skateboards, or roller skates/blades are to be operated on the tennis courts or basketball court.

§         Chairs and lounges will be placed in the designated areas on the deck of the pool and should not be moved from these areas.  No furniture is to be placed around the narrow portions of the deck.  Furniture placed in the grassy areas may be freely moved within those areas only.

§         Due to the large numbers of children in the nearby streets and on the parking lot area, drivers are requested to proceed slowly and carefully.  Park only in designated areas and use street parking (one side only) when the lot is full.

 EMERGENCY INFORMATION

§         A list of all members is kept at the pool with emergency information as supplied by each family.  It is each member’s responsibility to keep this list up-to-date and accurate.  In the event of an emergency, the pool staff will attempt to contact the listed choice of a doctor first.  Please be sure that all important medical information, such as allergies, is included on the card.

§         Members will not be permitted at pool until the emergency card is provided to pool staff.  Members must fill out a new emergency card each year.

CHILD CARE AND BABY SITTING ARRANGEMENTS

§         Any person employed on a permanent basis by a member for purposes of providing child care in the member’s home (i.e. housekeeper, nanny, au pair) will be permitted use of the pool and facilities provided the person is included by the member in the listing of family members, along wit required emergency information for this person.

§         Baby-sitters and other non-member temporary child-care providers will be admitted to the pool with a member’s children only when a written letter of authorization is provided by the member employing the baby-sitter.  The letter must identify the baby-sitter, the member’s children for whom the sitter is responsible, and the approximate time during which they will be at the pool or facilities. By requesting permission for any child care provider or baby-sitter to use the Club facilities, the member agrees to accept responsibility for all acts or omissions of the child care provider or baby-sitter and for assuring their familiarity with, and observance of, all pool and non-member use without notice or cause.  Any child under age 10 must be under the supervision of a parent or designated person age 12 or older.

 GUESTS

§         Robin Hood Swim Club is a private club for the use of the families who are shareholders in the property and is not open to the general public.

§         A membership consists of parents and children living in one house.  Any children no longer residing at the member’s home are considered guests and must pay guest fees.  With certain limitations, members are entitled to invite guests to use the Club’s facilities.

§         Members must sign for and accompany guests at all times, and are responsible to see that their guests are familiar with, and observe the rules and operating principles.  Guest fees shall be paid at the pool desk before entering the facility.

§         The guest privilege is limited to five (5) visits per individual per season for “in-area” guests (those living within a 10 mile radius of the pool).
